FAQ

  • What is the difference between a cosmetic tattoo and a traditional tattoo?

Cosmetic tattooing, also known as permanent makeup, enhances natural features using finer tools and pigments that fade over time, creating a softer, more natural look. Traditional tattoos go deeper into the skin with bold ink designed to last forever.

  • How long does it last?

One of the biggest misconceptions about permanent makeup is that it lasts forever without maintenance. The truth is, keeping your color and detail fresh takes upkeep. Fading happens gradually—sometimes to the point where you barely notice your tattoo—but in most cases, a soft residual color will stick around.

How long it lasts really depends on you. Things like your lifestyle, skin health, skincare routine, age, and even the techniques and pigments used all play a role. Lightening or removal can be a normal part of the process, especially after a few touch-ups over time. For most people, results last 1-3 years before it’s time to schedule a refresh.

  • Does it hurt?

Generally, no. Pain varies for everyone, but regular use of numbing cream usually keeps clients comfortable, sometimes even sleepy! If numbing agents don't work for you, there may be some discomfort. I strive to ensure a comfortable experience, so please feel free to share any concerns.

  • Is a Touch Up Necessary?

Due to the individuality of each client and the inherent nature of cosmetic tattoos, it is not uncommon for some areas to heal lighter or lose fine details over time. Touch-up sessions allow us to evaluate how your skin has reacted to the initial procedure and make any needed adjustments to enhance the overall effect. These follow-up appointments also help extend the duration of your tattoo's appearance. Included in the initial service price, touch-ups should be scheduled within 5 to 12 weeks following your first appointment, depending on the specific treatment received.

  • Am I a good candidate?

This procedure requires significant trust and patience. It’s better to be 100% sure.

If you have any skin issues, scar tissue, discoloration, an existing older tattoo, or lips that are heavily pigmented due to damage, or any other condition that may affect my ability to tattoo that area, you must reach out for approval and/or obtain a doctor’s note prior to scheduling an appointment.

If you are making a well-considered choice, have conducted your research, comprehend all associated risks, and are ready to adhere to the guidelines outlined in the other sections of this site, then cosmetic tattooing could be an excellent move toward a more low-maintenance lifestyle, and I would be delighted to work with you. :)

  • What makes me not a candidate?

You are NOT a candidate for cosmetic tattooing if you are/or have:

    1. Pregnant or nursing

    2. Undergoing chemotherapy

    3. Diabetes- Type I & II (need doctors approval)

    4. Allergies to Lidocaine/Benzocaine

    5. Using any blood thinning medicine

You must wait at least 1 year after using Accutane to be eligible for any service.

  • Can you cover an old tattoo?

This is different for everyone. Please send a clear picture of your brows to info@fancyfacesnyc.com for guidance.

If your tattoo is obviously very dark, misshapen, or falls too outside of your natural shape, you will need to wait until it has faded or consider removal. I can suggest you locations if you choose to consider this option. Additional sessions may be needed for coverup work.
Showing up to your appointment with previous work may result in additional charges or loss of booking fee if you were not pre-approved first by me.

  • I have an event coming up, when should I get my brows done?

If you are looking to get your brows done for a big future event, it is recommended to book about 2.5 months in advance to said event. This applies for vacations to warm places.

Working out or profusely sweating is prohibited during healing time which is approximately 10-12 days. Please plan accordingly for both initial and touch up session.

When considering booking, please note that there is no direct sunlight or swimming for 14 days after appt. Keep this in mind if you’re planning to vacation.
